Reader Response
After reading your editorial, "Lowering the Standards
of a Caste" in Edition #3 of the Gorean Times, I just
knew I had to add my own two cents here. I, for one,
agree wholeheartedly with you. I have stood by and
watched as people that were nominated for a chair on
the RBCS were never even put on the ballot. I have
watched people bash yet only if you held a chair was
it ok to do so.....double standards? I could go on
and on about the double standards that have been
displayed over and over again. In fact, when people
would come to me asking questions and yes, were to
afraid to ask the questions of the chairs themselves,
I would take the cause up for them. And yes, because
I did question certain events that had unfolded,
besides being left off the ballot myself when two had
told me they had nominated me and any voting that had
been done I was never even informed about, I too, was
thrown out of the Caste for questioning things. No
vote, no discussion.
In my eyes, I couldn't be happier than I am right now,
being part of the Accredited Blue Caste of Scribes.
To those Scribes out there who are fed up or just
plain tired of being controlled by certain
individuals, the ABCS is the place for you. I am not
'recognized' by the RBCS....do they or any of you
honestly care? I know I don't. I will always be a
Scribe and through pettiness which I have witnessed
firsthand, I wouldn't want to be a part of a group
like that anymore. There are other Scribe registries,
like this one, where people come together as a group
and as a whole to discuss any issues, to vote, to
abide by the rules that should be abided by, and not
just by a select few. Case in point:
The following rule of the RBCS quite interested me as
I never did understand how when made a slave, and then
released, how one could automatically retain
everything they had, including holding a chair. I
know if it had happened to me, I would have lost
everything and would need to start from the bottom
again....however, it appears that doesn't apply to
all. The following is from the RBCS's own Guidelines.
Funny, when these only apply to who they want them to,
isn't it?
6. If a member is
collared they lose their standing within the Caste.
Law references from the books of Norman.
"A slave, of course, in one sense, has no caste.
In being enslaved, she is robbed of caste, as well
as of her
name."
Captive of Gor - pg. 60
It then occurred to me, suddenly, that,
following Gorean civic law, the properties and titles,
assets and goods of a given individual who is reduced
to slavery are automatically regarded as having been
transferred to the nearest male relative---or nearest
relative if no adult male relative is available---or
to the city---or to, if pertinent, a guardian. Thus if
Aphris of Turia, by some mischance, were to fall to
Kamchak, and surely slavery, her considerable riches
would be immediately assigned to Saphrar, merchant of
Turia. Moreover, to avoid legal complications and free
the assests for investment and manipulation, the
transfer is assymetrical, in the sense that the
individual, even should he somehow later recover his
freedom, retains no legal claim whatsoever on the
transferred assets.

He now had her
kneeling naked at his feet, addressing him as
"Master". In the Gorean culture, of course, this
sort of thing is very significant. Indeed, in some
cities such things as kneeling before a man or
addressing him as "Master" effects legal imbondment
on the female, being interpreted as a gesture of
submission.

I would
love to hear from our readers on what is going on in your city.
